His co-workers from the New York World commissioned his memorial. It is cut from Italian marble made by Henry McKnight Brooklyn and stands 6 ft. 6 in. high.
His students from the Normal School commissioned the marker over his grave. They erected a Celtic cross and inscribed the motto he choose for the school: "Live to the Truth".
Founder of many island organizations including the Abiah Franklin Folger Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a descendant of Lieutenant Colonel Henry Wisner.
